Why is water so important in my diet?
Like stated above, water will help you feel full faster, and can prevent the intake of unwanted calories. It is especially important to drink a glass of water before a meal to prevent hunger and dehydration.
Water provides absolutely no calories to your diet making it the perfect beverage if you are trying to cut down on calories. In fact, if you add ice to your water you can actually burn anywhere from 300-500 calories per day. This is because your body must use calories to heat the water to body temperature.
Other benefits of drinking water while on a diet include: keeping our organs hydrated, flushing out unwanted toxins, preventing fatigue, and boosting energy levels.
How much water do I need in my diet?
It is recommended that females get at least 91 ounces per day and males get 125 ounces per day.
Those numbers can come from all sources whether it be water directly, other beverages, or food intake. However, it is recommended that at least 64 ounces per day come directly from water intake.
That’s as easy as drinking eight 8-ounce cups per day.
Remember that you will need to increase the amount of water intake if you exercise, which you should be doing if you want to be successful in losing weight or building muscle. You should be drinking water before, during, and after a workout.
How can I make sure that I am getting enough water throughout the day?
While exercising it is a good idea to keep a water bottle with you for easy access.
Slowly replace negative beverages with glasses of water. Start with replacing one beverage with a glass of water, the next day two, the third three, and so on until you have completely replaced negative beverages with water.
If you go to work or school you can take a portable bottle filled with water with you.
If you think the taste of water is too bland you can add a slice of fruit to your drink. I recommend a lemon wedge; it’s perfect and refreshing.
Fresh fruits and vegetables is a great way to get the healthy fluid in your system. Celery is an ideal choice because it provides you with water as well as helping your body burn extra calories.
