You probably woke up to the smell of coffee this morning.
Or maybe you stopped into a Starbucks on your way to work.
Coffee is a great addition to our mornings, but if you are on a diet, drinking coffee may be something you want to avoid.
Depending on how you like it, there are a couple of ingredients found in coffee that hurt fat burning.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
What’s in coffee that makes us fat?
Did you know a plain cup of coffee is less than 10 calories? It seems like you’d be able to drink coffee without worry, right?
But what happens when you add sugar and creamer to it?
As you know, sugar raises our insulin levels, which makes us store fat and feel hungry quickly.
Cream is a very fattening food, high in saturated fat and calories.
And then there is caffeine.
Caffeine is a very helpful drug that promotes mood enhancement and alertness, but while you are on a diet is the enemy.
Caffeine is known to cause the adrenal glands to release adrenaline and dopamine. The same exact thing happens when our stress levels are too high.
These two hormones need to get any glucose that’s been stored back into the bloodstream for that quick burst of energy. Because there is more glucose in your bloodstream there will be more insulin in your blood.
Caffeine triggers a hungry feeling causing us to eat food to counter the hunger, thus adding unnecessary calories to our diet.
There is an upside to caffeine though, because it does promote the fat burning effects of ephedrine.
What is the verdict on coffee?
Drinking coffee black is okay due to the fact that one cup contains 10 calories or less.
To avoid the calories in sugar and creamer, natural sweetener and low-fat milk are acceptable replacements.
As for caffeine, small amounts are tolerable and won’t hurt any diet plans too badly.
However, I still recommend avoiding caffeine, at least while you are on a diet. The insulin will boost your hunger levels and extra calories are something you don’t want to risk.
What can I do to replace coffee?
Most people drink coffee in the morning to become more alert during the day.
If you are serious about your diet, you will replace coffee with exercise. Morning exercise will make you feel more energized and more alert than your cup of coffee.
