Being able to stick to your diet is definitely the most important part of being on a diet.
If you end up quitting a few days after starting you aren’t making any progress toward your goals; are you?
Too many people fall off their diets soon after starting.
To reach your fitness goals you are going to need to stick to your commitment and it just so happens that I’m here to help you with some tips to stay motivated.
Dieting requires a change in lifestyle.
First off, the best tip to being successful on a diet is to treat it like a lifestyle change, but you have to make sure you can live with this change. Your diet should not feel like torture. You have to realize that a diet is not a short term solution to a long term problem.
Slowly incorporate this change into your lifestyle so that you can live with it. This can mean simple changes such as parking farther away from the office, taking the stairs, walking your dog, even walking in the park with your loved one. Anything but turning on the TV for an endless amount of hours.
Keeping a positive attitude about this new lifestyle is vital. By making some of the small changes mentioned above, you will notice the tiny amounts of success and that will help you stay positive.
Never deprive yourself from the things you like.
If you’ve got a diet that is completely eliminating an entire food group, you are most likely to fail because you will be more likely to give into cravings. It is never a good idea to keep yourself from the occasional splurge of foods you like. I’m not suggesting you make this a daily habit, however.
If you eat a slice or cake on your friend’s birthday, or indulge in a eating a few chips you’ve got nothing to worry about. You can even compensate by spending an extra few minutes exercising that day. Make sure you keep track of the junk food you are eating. You don’t want to engage in “mindless munching” because those calories will add up fast.
Get support from family, friends, or a spouse.
Research shows that most people who try to go into a diet alone will fail fairly quickly, so it’s a really good idea to get someone who will support you in your success and motivate you when times get tough. This person, or people, can also be an exercise buddy who can encourage you to push yourself.
Make sure your support is nothing but positive people. If you’ve got people telling you you’ll never make it, then most likely you never will. Negative words can cloud your mind and push your further and further from success. Encouraging, positive words will keep your mind focused on the success you’ve been having and help you achieve your overall goals.
Before I call it a day, I’m going to leave you with some words of encouragement. “If you think you can’t, you can’t, and you won’t. If you think you can, you can, and you will.”
Good luck sticking to your diet!
