Overcoming and Conquering Your Fears

Every single person in the world fears something. It might be flying, snakes, spiders, even darkness. They have so many words dedicated to the fear of certain things. Most fears are completely harmless, and are just thought up by our minds. I think that fear stops success, so I believe that everyone should learn how to overcome fear, but how can you get over it? It is actually very easy with a few simple steps.
First thing you are going to need to do when learning how to overcome fear is to figure out what you are afraid of. Does this particular thing danger you in any way at all? If it doesn’t then you have nothing to be afraid of. If it does pose a danger to you, keep reading for more information on how to overcome fear.
When trying to conquer a fear you need to go about it gradually. For example if you are afraid of spiders you need to overcome the fear little by little. Don’t hop into a nest of black widows at first. Actually, don’t do that at all. But seriously, you have to start small. First look at some drawings of your fear. Then move up to a live photo or video. Then get rid of cobwebs. Pretty soon you will be able to control the fear because it will begin to diminish over time. I have experienced this in my life when skateboarding. At first it’s terrifying to drop-in off of a three foot quarter pipe, but as you get better and try higher ramps you get more used to it. Pretty soon you can drop-in off of a thirteen foot ramp with no problem.
Try confronting whatever it is that you are afraid of. Let’s go with snakes this time. If you are afraid of snakes go catch a garden snake and hold it. If you are afraid of getting hurt, you have nothing to worry about because they are basically harmless. They will not bite you; they only want to bite spiders and other bugs. If you have a fear of flying, try taking a flight somewhere. You will notice that most things you are afraid of have nothing that will put you in any sort of danger.
Recycle your negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Being negative just feeds the fire, so to extinguish it just think positive. If you are thinking the plane is going to crash every time you get on it you are more likely to be panicking about it. If you stay calm you will be less worried, therefore less afraid. Catch yourself with negative thoughts. If you find yourself thinking negative immediately get rid of it and think of something more positive instead.
