Do you like your job? Most people don’t and they find work as boring as this sentence. To those people I say, quit whining about your job and quit! Oh, you say you can’t quit. Well then, just make work a little bit more fun. Take action on some of these ideas to learn how to be happy at work.
Let’s see, these are in no specific order, so try them all.
Try to be nicer to the people you work with. It is incredibly easy to say “Good morning, how are you?” to someone and you never know how far one phrase can take you. You might find out that you have a lot in common with that person, which may make you friends after a while. Working with a friend is pretty awesome and a great way to have a good time at work. Even if you don’t become friends with them, it still feels good to be friendly to someone.
Make someone else’s day better. Doing so will make you feel even better and is a good way to make work more fun. Focus on what you are doing and think about how it is helping the people you work for. Getting your paperwork done on time will make your boss happy, or making that burger will make your customers happy. Either way making someone else feel better will make you feel good.
When you get to work do the hardest task of the day right away. Start your work day off with a challenge. If you get the big project out of the way as soon as possible it will lead you to being more productive later on in the day. Finishing the hardest thing will make you feel good knowing that you can breeze more easily through the rest of the day. Plus, it takes a ton of weight off of your shoulders earlier on.
Make your workspace a little bit more personal. Boring desks make for a boring time at work. Throw a couple of pictures of your family up, or draw yourself a dinosaur to frame and put up on your desk. Also, get rid of clutter because it can lead to stress. A cluttered desk means a cluttered mind, but an empty desk does not mean an empty mind. It means less stress and a more enjoyable work time. Clear off that desk and personalize it. You will be amazed at how much more you are going to want to work once you do it.
Try to make it outside at least once every work day. Breathing in fresh air and just getting up out of your seat can make work a tiny bit more enjoyable. Try to do this during your lunch break because that will be the time when you have the best opportunity. Just get up and eat your lunch outside, or even walk around outside. Getting a small bit of exercise every day during work will make you happier and give you the energy to keep going through the rest of the day.
Never skip meals while at work, and don’t eat them at your desk either. Work can put you into some pretty poor eating habits and if you don’t do something about them you will find it hard to focus and be motivated on accomplishing tasks. Hunger sucks, and being full will make you better at your job. If you get a break for lunch, take it. Try to make lunch healthy. Pack some fresh fruit and vegetables, and pack something with fiber in it so that you will be full for most of the day. Water, too! Don’t forget about water.
Play pranks on your co-workers, such as putting various office supplies in Jell-O. Just kidding, don’t do that.
Applying these tips the next time you are at work will make work a tad bit more enjoyable. Maybe your job won’t suck as bad now. These tips should also motivate you to do better at your job, which could possibly give you a promotion and make work even better!
