Pumpkins are perfect for adding to your dog's regular diet. They have many health benefits for dogs, are super nutritious, and have next to no side effects.
One thing you will have to watch is if the pumpkin has already started rotting. If it's a couple of days after Halloween and you're thinking about feeding your jack-o-lantern with Pikachu carved into it to your dog, don't. Pumpkins that have been sitting out have already started to gather mold and bacteria that can be harmful to your dog's health.
For best results make sure the pumpkin is fresh. Pumpkins rot very quickly so make sure you are feeding your dog the freshest pumpkin possible. You can feed both the seeds and flesh to your dog, as well as both cooked and raw.
The best way to give pumpkins to your canine is to buy them canned. That way all you have to do is open the can and feed it to your dog. Simple as can be.
With pumpkin seeds you'll want to avoid giving them raw and should first clean and roast them. Do not use salt. Pumpkin seeds help fight off parasites like tapeworms and roundworms because an amino acid found in pumpkin seeds, Cucurbitin, naturally helps deworm an animal. Not only that, but pumpkin seeds help dislodge kidney stones and clean out the urinary tract of dogs.
Pumpkins contain a lot of fiber making them great for helping with weight loss, upset stomach, diarrhea, and urinary health. They are 90% water and are good for getting moisture into your dog's diet.
Pumpkins will be extremely welcome by your dog!
